Intercultural Research

Tuam Community Development Resource Centre conducted an intercultural research project called “Tuam a Town of Many Nations. The objective of the study was to explore the needs of different nationalities now living in Tuam. The project explored numbers, needs and experiences of the many nationalities living in Tuam. The project recruited and trained a multinational group of volunteers as field workers for the project. The long range plan is to work towards an intercultural Tuam where all those living in the town can make the most of the cultural diversity surrounding them. The findings of the research will inform TCDRC and all other community, voluntary organisations, statutory agencies and service providers in Tuam of the issues and a collective effort will be required to encourage the integration process.

Domestic Violence

  • We act as a referral service to frontline services
  • We advocate and lobby for more funding for frontline services for those experiencing violence
  • We work in partnership with frontline services to develop an integrated community response to violence against women

Our Programmes

Babies (3 months to 1 year old). The infant’s day is governed by parent direction about feeding and sleeping routines. When the babies are awake, they are held, talked to and played with. As they grow and change, they are encouraged to explore (outdoors and indoors) the wide variety of toys books and other equipment provided.

Toddlers (1-3 years). The toddler programme is designed to allow flexibility appropriate to their stage of development. The equipment is chosen with a view to the child seeing, sharing talking, crawling, reaching stretching.

Montessori/Preschool (3-5 years). A full Montessori programme together with preschool free-play and planned activities are available to this age group.

After school. The after-school programme is a partnership of staff and children. Following supervised homework, children are encouraged to plan fun and stimulating activities for themselves indoors and outdoors.

Staff

Tuam Community Childcare Centre is staffed by highly qualified and experienced staff. Staff are encouraged to avail of ongoing training as appropriate. All staff must receive Garda clearance before working in the crèche.
